About Bossique: The Bridge Between East & West
East Meets West
Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet, Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat; But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth, When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!
Rudyard Kipling’s words resonate deeply with us. They aren’t just poetry; they are the literal foundation of our family and our business.
In an industry defined by barriers—language barriers, cultural barriers, and trust barriers—Bossique exists to tear them down. We are one of the few transparent hair companies in Asia that is partially foreign-owned, bridging the gap between Asian manufacturing and Western standards.
How It Started: The Insider
Bossique started with Cristina Wen, who cut her teeth as a sales manager for one of the industry’s giants. Like the typical China hair vendor, her old company was a machine: hit sales targets, push volume, and keep the customers in the dark.
Cristina saw the “bait-and-switch” tactics firsthand. She saw bosses prioritizing quick profits over long-term relationships, and it didn’t sit right with her. When she refused to compromise her ethics, she didn’t just leave—she was pushed out. Her former boss, a heavyweight in the industry, even attempted to sabotage her new venture.
But that resistance only clarified her mission: To build a company that exposes the shortcuts rather than taking them.
The Bridge: The Outsider
Then came Anthony. A Dutch expat with a background in Communication & Design, Anthony brought a fresh set of eyes to the chaos of the hair industry. Having taught English in China, he understood where things got “lost in translation.”
He realized that most bad hair experiences weren’t just about the hair; they were about a lack of Western standards in service and logic. He joined Cristina to fill that gap.
Bossique began with a refusal to compromise. Our founder, Cristina, started her career as a sales manager for a major Chinese hair giant. She saw the industry from the inside out: commissions prioritized over quality, employees kept in the dark, and “bait-and-switch” tactics used on loyal clients. When her boss demanded she compromise a client’s order to squeeze out more profit, Cristina walked away. She founded Bossique with a singular mission: to expose the bad practices of the industry and provide the transparency she wished she had as an employee. Despite facing significant pushback and sabotage attempts from her former employer, she built Bossique into a sanctuary for honest business.
The Family
Now married with a son (Charlie) and living in Guangzhou, Cristina and Anthony have quite literally bridged the gap between East and West.
- Cristina handles the ground game: sourcing, factory vetting, and quality control. She knows where the bodies are buried in this industry.
- Anthony handles the client experience: ensuring that what we sell is explained clearly, honestly, and with the service level you expect from a Western partner.
Our Evolution: From Bundles to Boutique
We started with a laser focus on the Black market, mastering wigs and bundles. And let’s be honest—we got pretty good at it.
But about three years ago, we decided to shake things up. We wanted to evolve into a comprehensive wholesale hair supplier for the White market as well, offering customizable extensions like Tape-ins, Keratin, and Wefts. Spoiler alert: It wasn’t easy. We tested, researched, and failed multiple times before we found the one—a manufacturer who could handle icy blondes and fine textures without destroying the hair.
